Marc Potts is a fantasy artist and folklorist, whose visionary art has received wide acclaim through the exposure of his work on book covers, both fiction and non-fiction, and in magazines, most notably for pagan publications such as Pentacle, The Cauldron and Pagan Dawn, and also fantasy art publications like ImagineFX. Intrigued by the outer world and propelled by the inner, his work is an attempt to merge the natural and the supernatural, often with a nod towards the macabre and the bizarre.

He currently lives in Devon, in an old haunted house built around 1650.

His work is used in the giftware industry by various manufacturers and includes gargoyle style doorknockers, fantasy figurines and journals.

What is Steampunk?

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and speculative fiction, frequently featuring elements of fantasy, that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era England but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of “the path not taken” of such technology as dirigibles, analog computers, or digital mechanical computers (such as Charles Babbage’s Analytical engine); these frequently are presented in an idealized light, or with a presumption of functionality.

Steampunk lovers are worldwide spread in various domains including fashion, music, film, etc.  The best example is the group Abney park as they mix the steampunk music with the fashion.  See the videos below:

How did everything start ?

And below are a few examples of how the steampunk has been developped by the giftware industry:
